Ka'b bin 'Ayadh related that he heard the Prophet (pbuh) say: Every nation is subjected to a trial, and the trial of my followers will be wealth. (Tirmidhi)
All the material things in this Dunya are a trial for us that we must overcome. Wealth and Power are temporary while working righteuos deeds will be eternal. Allah has only put his servants on this Earth in order to see which of them have the best actions.

What Makes A True Man
She lays on the ground, bleeding, broken. The shadow of her attacker recedes in the darkness, followed by the tattered remnants of her security and honor. Blood has replaced her tears, and harsh pain has choked the cries from her throat. Bruises cover her body, but none scar her so deep as the one on her heart.

The Dangers of Smoking
The mixed views on the subject came about because cigarettes are a more recent invention and did not exist at the time of the revelation of the Qur'an in the 7th century A.D. Therefore, one cannot find a verse of Qur'an or words of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) saying clearly that "Cigarettee smoking is forbidden." However, there are many instances where the Qur'an gives us general guidelines, and calls upon us to use our reason and intelligence, and seek guidance from Allah about what is right and wrong. In the Qur'an, Allah says, “...he [the Prophet] commands them what is just, and forbids them what is evil; he allows them as lawful what is good, and prohibits them from what is bad..."
